March Drive to Dillsborro NC

Sir Jim Brickey will be lead this drive to Dillsboro, NC... The drive route included portions of HY's 11/178/215/281 /107  and several NC county back roads.  A different return route will be used.

Lunch was be at The Haywood Smokehouse in Dillsboro, NC... which is a pretty good place for BBQ.
It has been a while since the club has wandered in this direction and Sir Brickey has come up with some very Miata friendly roads for us to drive. Sign up early as this drive has a 12 Miata limit...
Plan for a full day of miata driving as we should return to the Greenville area 5:00ish... Four restroom/rest breaks are planned for the day... breaks are scheduled for 15 minutes. Please follow Jim's directions and limit breaks accordingly. On the return, the drive will officially end when we reach the T-intersection of SC-130 and SC-11.
Drivers meeting at 9:45 with a timely 10:00 departure. Please have a full gas tank and empty  bladder prior to drivers meeting.
Time of the drive will be 7 hr and 180 miles ..

  • Ronny NobleGreat ride with some great roads. I am new to mountain driving and everyone was very welcoming. It was the perfect trip to break in my new Miata. I wish I could have stayed for the entire ride but I managed to give my passenger a serious case of carsickness.

I've long held that those who are foolhardy enough to sit in the passenger seat with one of us at the wheel are either far braver or far crazier than we are. They go everywhere we do, but they do it sans brakes and steering wheels. No shame in a bit of gastric rebellion, when you consider it that way.

  • Tim OlsenRonny - Good to have you and we understand the carsickness issue; Patti was feeling a little queasy as well. Sometimes 400 turns will do that to you (or me)!

Great ride, with huge kudos to Jim and Francis for sharing some marvelous roads, a few of which were new surprises, at least to me.
